He has been an active concert performer, making his American debut in 1981 at the Carnegie (Weill) Recital Hall. Since then, he has made regular tours of the US, including solo recitals and performances with several American orchestras. He has performed complete cycles of the 32 Beethoven Sonatas, the 10 Scriabin Sonatas, and the 9 Prokofiev Sonatas, as well as a total of 62 piano concertos. He has made approximately 20 albums for Ondine. In 2007, Matti Raekallio joined the faculty of the Juilliard School in New York. He previously held professorships at the University of Music and Drama in Hanover, Germany, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Swedish Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and Western Michigan University in the US. Matti Raekallio's students include several first prize winners in major international piano competitions. He frequently serves as a juror and gives regular master classes throughout the US, Europe, and Asia. Matti Raekallio's doctorate in music at the Sibelius Academy focused on the history of piano fingering. He subsequently became a member of an international research team investigating pianists' choice of fingering from the viewpoint of cognitive psychology. From 1998 through 2000, he served as a member of the Research Council for Culture and Society of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. ## Discography on Ondine (11) - [Finland 100: A Century of Finnish Classics · 5 CD collection celebrating 100 years of Finland's independence · Orchestral Works I & II · Concertos · Vocal Works · Chamber Music](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-1300-2q.md): Various Finnish artist, orchestras and conductors (ODE 1300-2Q, 2016) - [Sergei Prokofiev: Piano Sonatas Nos. 1-9 · Romeo and Juliet · Visions fugitives · Sarcasms · Other works for piano](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-1103-2q.md): Matti Raekallio, piano (ODE 1103-2Q, 2011) - [Einar Englund: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 · Epinikia](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-1015-2.md): Matti Raekallio, piano · Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra · Eri Klas, conductor (ODE 1015-2, 2003) - [Sergei Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet · Sarcasms · Old Granny's Tales · Four Etudes · Toccata](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-898-2.md): Matti Raekallio, piano (ODE 898-2, 1999) - [Aarre Merikanto: Piano Concertos Nos. 2 & 3 · Two Studies for Small Orchestra · Two Pieces for Orchestra](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-915-2.md): Matti Raekallio, piano · Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra · Tuomas Ollila, conductor (ODE 915-2, 1998) - [Matti Raekallio: A Night at the Opera](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-834-2.md): Matti Raekallio, piano (ODE 834-2, 1994) - [Anton Rubinstein · Moritz Moszkowski: Piano Concerto No. 4 · Piano Concerto in E major](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-818-2.md): Matti Raekallio, piano · Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra · Leonid Grin (ODE 818-2, 1994) - [Sergey Prokofiev: Violin Sonatas · Five Melodies](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-807-2.md): Ilya Grubert, violin · Matti Raekallio, piano (ODE 807-2, 1993) - [Paganini Studies: Works by Liszt, Friedman & Brahms](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-777-2.md): Matti Raekallio, piano (ODE 777-2, 1991) - [Sergei Prokofiev: Piano Sonatas Nos. 4-6](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-761-2.md): Matti Raekallio, piano (ODE 761-2, 1991) - [Sergei Prokofiev: Piano Sonatas Nos. 1-3 · Visions fugitives](https://ondine.eyelabel.com/catalogue/ode-729-2.md): Matti Raekallio, piano (ODE 729-2, 1989) ## Links - [The Juilliard School](http://www.juilliard.edu/degrees-programs/music/faculty/detail.php?FacultyId=9580)
