This CD features two major works by Finnish composer Pehr Henrik Nordgren: Cronaca (1991), a symphonic work for strings, and the one-movement Fourth Violin Concerto, written for John Storgårds - the soloist and conductor on this recording - in 1994.

The artists
Wegelius Chamber Orchestra
The Wegelius Chamber Orchestra was founded by Ralf Sjöblom at a music course of the Martin Wegelius Institute, Helsinki, in summer 1986. In 1991, Sjöblom was succeeded as Artistic Director and conductor by its concertmaster John Storgårds.
John Storgårds
John Storgårds (b. 1963) is one of the most versatile and respected Finnish musicians of his generation. He has become one of today's leading performers and champions of new and rarely heard works, alongside more familiar repertoire. Between 2006 and 2009, he served as Chief Conductor of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. In autumn 2008, Storgårds became Chief Conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and continued in his position until 2015. In 2012, he assumed the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and became the orchestra's chief conductor in 2022. Storgårds additionally holds the title of Artistic Director of the Chamber Orchestra of Lapland since 1996. In January 2024, the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra announced the appointment of Storgårds as its next chief conductor
